Pretty in Pink
Don'tcha just love the corny titles!? LOL Heheh.
Anyway, here's the super-soft pink ponchette that I did for myself that I'm afraid to wear to work.... Goof, I know. Its so pretty and girly, but do you think that this 40 yr old mom might look like she wants to be "10" again wearing this, especially to the exec's in our ad agency? Ugly Betty, anyone...
I don't know. Maybe it'll remain weekend casual and never see the office.

One at a time...
I can't believe that the last time I posted to my blog was Dec 29. That's not a good thing. I'm wondering if my laziness will continue or if I'll snap out of this doldrum that I've gotten into...
Christmas was wonderful this year. No petty family bickering, lots of food, great weather, we all got spoiled rotten by Santa... Like usual, it went by like a blur. I was however extremely sick with a flu that I thought was going to take down my whole family but only seemed to latch onto me. I should be thankful, I suppose. I can take it, but it sure wouldn't have been fair if the boy had gotten sick during his second most favorite time of the year. While I was sick I'd hoped everyday that I'd be able to pick up the sticks and get some extreme knitting done, but, like I said, it totally sidelined me. I'd have to wait almost to New Year's to do any kind of fun.
Well, when I did eventually return to a semi-noncommatose-state, I did knit with a vengence. I did a couple of dishcloths. One for my bro (I blogged it in my last post), a feather and fan like the one that Mary Anne gifted me from our Canadian Dishloth Group fall exchange. Another pair of slippers... inspired from, again, Mary Anne. She posted a link to some Technicolour slippers (I will too when I update photos for this post) that appealed to me... I don't have lots of "slipper" worthy worsted in my stash (yet) so I just did my two colours... Pix to come. Another scarf, a Mobius very wide in my fav colour about 13" wide and eternally long ;) I love it! I also did up a ponchette in some very pretty in pink mohair mix (can't remember yarn but will look it up for update w/photo) that I'm scared to wear to work. I'm not a "small" girl. Quite well endowed and am "fluffy"... I'm scared it makes me look like a giant Q-tip.I might just get brave and post a pix here for you all to judge. I've worn it shopping, out for supper, around the house... Just not sure about work. I'd like a "GAP" pink long sleeved top to go with it. Maybe that's why I haven't worn it to work yet... Wierd, eh?!
Anyway... I'm right now knitting another cloth for my exchange buddy for Valentine's Day, Dorothy, and have about 4 others planned to do. I need to replenish after Christmas. My little drawer is just about empty except for the gifts I received (thanks again, exchange buddies, you know who you are).
Anyway this is supposed to be just a quick non-pixy post with an update very soon, so... Now I am done...
I've missed you all and am glad to be back blogging and knitting again... XO

Its been so long since my last post I don't even know where to start!
I fixed up the boy's scarf using "the ladies" suggestions in the post below and now its much more functional! I thought I took a photo of it, but I guess I was wrong. The larger sized needles and fewer stitches did the trick. Now, if only he'd wear it...heheh. That's ok, its because I also knit him an extra long scarf in the colours he wanted. He's a member over at Club Penquin and his little Penquin has a scarf that he wanted me to mimic for him. He wears that one all the time!
Then it was onto a fun fur scarf for a friend's birthday. Her favorite colour is black. The ends I did with some fancy fun fuur from my stash so that it wasn't solid black. Purples and blues aren't really her colours but it seemed boring without some other colour in it. Anyway, she loved it!
For the boy's piano teacher, I knit a dishcloth with a musical note on it in pink. It was a fun cloth to knit and only took a couple of nights after work to do. We wrapped it up for her along with the mitered purple and pink cloth I did previously.
For his teacher, I raided my "cloth drawer" and we wrapped up for her the zig ziag lace cloth that I did in Swimming Pool blue this summer. I have so many cloths, I figured they'd make great last minute gifts to clear out. Then I can rebuild again!
I also packaged her up some macaroons I made for our Christmas Cookie Exchange at work. I made 12 dozen, but only needed 8 for the exchange.

I also fell in love with the Mason Dixon Nine Patch dishcloth... I did a couple of them, one to give away in the Canadian Dishcloth Christmas Exchange for Nan in Christmas colours, and the other in blues and pruple verigated, for my own use. I love the patchy look of these cloths! Picking up the stitches wasn't as hard as I thought it'd be and it was a good chance for me to learn a new technique. I will definitely make more of these!
For my son's after school sitter, I did up another pair of the pocketbook slippers in the same taupe colour I did for myself, as there was enough yarn leftover on the ball. Packaged with the lacey cloth I did, again in the summer, out at the lake, I hope she likes it.
We need to still give her that present as I ended up extremely sick the week before Christmas and in bed mostly all that week. It pretty much ended my Christmas knitting rampage even though I wanted to knit my FIL some slippers. I'll still do them but they'll have to be "just because" gifts.
I also, "last minute" knit a dishcloth for my brother, more of a haha present than anything. The Star Trek ensignia in red. It was super quick and a fun knit! Hopefully I'll get a photo of it before he goes back home as I didn't get a chance to before I gave it to him. It'd be fun to do one up in each of the "shirt" colours from the show. Red, blue and gold. I should do that and cmplete the set for him.

I'm having an issue... UPDATED
So on the weekend, my favorite boy (our son) asked me to knit him a scarf. I've got to keep him warm and toasty and as his mom, its my job and obligation to give the boy whatever he wants (this time)!
I bought 3 skeins of Bernat Black Lites figuring it would look kinda funky and cool. The acrylic yarn is surprising extremely soft and non-itchy to his face. Key factor in chosing this particular "no frills" yarn for him. Something that would stand up to the rigures of youth.
I cast on 30 stitches on size 13 needles, instead of the 34 the ballband pattern called for and k2p2 ribbing till all 3 skeins were gone. All stretched out, it must be 7 inches wide! Not a bad thing when we're talking about covering a 10 year olds face in the middle of winter, really, but...
Holy crap! Is it ever heavy and I don't think its really long enough for him! I think it could use about 6 more inches. But its so heavy! I checked out Bernat's website and they've got a Very Cherry Cardigan knit out of this stuff! It must weigh 50 pounds! I can't even imagine wearing something knit up that weighs in like armor!
My issue is...
Do I rip it out and cast on less stitches to make it more narrow and hopefully lengthen the thing instead of adding to the weight by picking up stitches and getting another ball and knitting till that one's gone?! Or do I leave it be and chalk it up as "learning"...
Needless to say, if I ever do use this stuff again, it will be for a narrow, narrow, scarf... I've got to "snappy" a photo of it yet to post when I decide what to do with it, I guess.

I'll add another ball to the one I made originally and wear it myself.... If he doesn't steal it back after its done...

Presents From Dad
My dad is awesome. A real Mountain Man. He's always enjoyed nature and being outside in any kind of weather. We skied as kids, went winter camping, ice fishing, tobagganed, skated, swam, canoed, hiked... You get the idea.
My parents bought themselves some land in BC and he goes there alot! I know he'd like to build a nice house on their little piece of nature so they can both go and enjoy it before it gets to be too much for them.
Anyway, last year he made a bird house from a log of a tree he hollowed out after cutting it down. He made it because he wanted to give back to the birds after having to cut down the tree that so many birds enjoyed. It was his way of making a new home from something they might have once called "home". Its so cute, I don't want to use it. It'll get ruined outside! City-slickers.
This year, he made this

You tap the lava rock and they vibrate, making a kind of low humming sound. Mom said he spent 2 days out there looking for just the right pieces of wood and rock to use. Put it together ever so carefully so the tiny stems wouldn't break. Glued, then shellacked and left alone to dry. Finally packing them up ever so carefully and bringing them on a 8 hour car trip home for my brother and I.
They are so cute! Thanks Dad, I love it!

Gawsh, they's Good Lookin...
We watched tonight a Robert Downey Jr flick, Only You (the one with him and Marissa Tomei....) He's so cute! I could eat him with a spoon. Troubled, but dang cute.. My hubby was saying, as we were watching "oh gawd! Enough already!" As I was just randomly bellowing out "awwww, look at that.... he's such a good loooking guy!" I was always boy crazy...

Like My New "Sticks"? Aren't they SWEET!
Aren't they pretty.... Got them at the Telus World of Science... Yup. Science is cool!
We went there to watch an IMAX film, Fighter Pilot-Operation Red Flag. Part of the weekend long boy's birthday. It was very interesting! Mind you, I find fighter pilots extremely YUMMY! So dangerous. I love flying! Wierd actually, considering how afraid of heights I am... That's a whole other blog, nevermind post......
But I digress. Back to my new sweet sticks. mmmmm Very sweet.... A little too sweet... How'm I supposed to knit with these.... ;D

My Pocketbook Slippers
So, the morning after the boy's birthday, we woke up Saturday to this...
A whole boat load of snow. I'm so not ready for winter yet. I'm in winter-denial, actually. I don't believe its really snow. Nope, you can't make me...
What's a girl to do!? When the snow falls, the pointy sticks rise high in the air! I cast on the Pocketbook Slippers from Alli and Lisa's website, Knitwits Heaven (see my post below).
What a great little slipper to knit up! Super interesting as when all is said and done, it looks like a little handbag... So cute!
By the end of the weekend, I had myself a cute little pair of slippers! My mom's even cast them on now... I'd like to make a few more pairs to give as Christmas presents, especially to my Mother in Law. She's a slipper-nut! Imagine these in all sorts of fun and different colours! A regular sized skein of worsted weight yarn should get you, I bet, 2 pairs! They took hardly any yarn at all. A really fun knit!

Aren't they cute? Our neighbor, who paints amazing watercolours, made these for our boy for halloween. Don't you just love them! They tasted even better.. Chocolate and orange icing very tasty! My favorite part was the licorice whip legs.
